Accessibility

We want anyone who needs a cooling tower repaired to be able to use this site and reach us. If something here gets in your way, tell us and we will fix it.

Last updated September 2026. This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

What we have done

Accessibility was part of building this site rather than something checked at the end. Specifically:

  • Text contrast. Body text is checked against the 4.5:1 minimum. Our brand green and gray do not meet that ratio at body size, so they are used only for large headings, icons and background surfaces, never for small print. Getting this right mattered more than using the brand color everywhere.
  • Real text, not pictures of text. The legacy site built its entire navigation from GIF images with no alternative text. Every menu item, heading and button here is actual text that a screen reader can read and a browser can enlarge.
  • Described photographs. Every photograph has alt text that describes the equipment and the work shown, written specifically for that image rather than repeating the file name.
  • Keyboard operation. Every link, button, menu and form field can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and the focused element is always visibly outlined.
  • Skip link. A "skip to content" link is the first thing a keyboard or screen reader user reaches, so the navigation does not have to be traversed on every page.
  • Structure. Pages use one main heading and a correct heading order, landmark regions, and labelled sections, so assistive technology can navigate by structure.
  • Forms that explain themselves. Every field has a visible label attached to it. Errors are described in words next to the field concerned, not signaled by color alone.
  • Reduced motion. The small reveal animations are switched off automatically if your system is set to reduce motion.
  • Zoom and reflow. The layout works at 400% zoom and on narrow screens without horizontal scrolling.
  • Works without JavaScript. All content and the contact form work with JavaScript disabled. Scripting only enhances the navigation and glossary search.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you what is not right than claim perfection:

  • PDF documents. Any legacy brochure or specification sheet we make available was produced years ago and is not tagged for screen readers. If you need the content of a PDF in an accessible format, ask us and we will send it to you as plain text or read it to you over the phone.
  • Photographs of equipment. Alt text describes what is in each photograph, but a photograph of a corroded gearbox carries detail that is genuinely hard to convey in a sentence. If an image is doing work you cannot see, call us and we will describe it properly.
  • Automated testing only, so far. This site has been checked with automated tools and manual keyboard testing. It has not yet been tested by users of screen readers and other assistive technology. We expect that testing to find things we have missed.
